The School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) has once again been recognized among the nation’s best in the 2027 U.S. News & World Report rankings. This year, the undergraduate program is ranked No. 2, moving up one spot, while the graduate program has maintained its No. 7 ranking.

MSE Chair Natalie Stingelin stated her excitement for the growth in rankings this program has earned. “This recognition reflects the extraordinary dedication, talent, and passion of our entire MSE family, including our students, faculty, staff, researchers, alumni, advisory board members, and supporters,” said Stingelin. “It is a testament to what can be achieved when a community comes together around a shared commitment to excellence, innovation, and impact.”

The undergraduate team is especially proud of the hard work and recognition the students, faculty, and the program have received. “These rankings demonstrate the incredible momentum of our school,” said Tristen Jones, Educational Outreach Manager for MSE. “I’m proud to be part of a program that not only leads in research and academics but also inspires future materials scientists and engineers. This recognition pushes us to keep creating new ways for students and industry partners to connect, collaborate, and innovate.”

Stingelin credits the institution and the College of Engineering for their involvement in this achievement. “We are deeply grateful for the support of Georgia Tech and the College of Engineering, and we see this achievement not as a destination, but as motivation to continue pushing boundaries and preparing the next generation of materials leaders. This recognition celebrates not only where we are today, but the limitless potential of what our community can achieve together in the years ahead."
