Georgia Tech’s School of Materials Science and Engineering is officially ranked No. 3 in the 2025 U.S. News & World Report ranking of materials engineering schools, climbing three places from the previous year’s ranking of No. 6 among public universities.

This rise in ranking has faculty and staff feeling hopeful of the impact it will have on incoming students. “I am incredibly proud to be part of a program that not only excels in research and academic excellence but also inspires the next generation of materials science engineers,” said Tristen Jones, the Educational Outreach Manager for MSE. “This ranking fuels our passion to continue to grow as a school and create opportunities for students and industry leaders to engage, collaborate, and push the boundaries of what's possible in materials science!”

This ranking puts the school among the likes of MIT and Berkeley. It is also MSE’s highest ranking since 2020.

“Being ranked as one of the top 3 Materials Science and Engineering Undergraduate Programs in the country means a lot to us, and I am grateful to all our staff, faculty, and students for making this happen,” said MSE Chair Natalie Stingelin. “We shall continue to rejuvenate our materials program towards the needs of the 21st century while fostering our research, teaching excellence and showcasing the importance that materials play in our daily life, from health care, energy harvesting and generation, to global sustainability, novel quantum applications, and so much more.”
