Shirl Trawick
MSE Financial Admin III

Shirl is a Georgia native with more than 20 years of finance and administration experience in the University System of Georgia. She began her career at Georgia State University.

For the past two years, Shirl served as the business manager on the academia side with the Department of Economics in the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State.  In this position, she managed state and foundation accounts and residual and indirect budgets.  Additionally, she handled approvals for travel, processed invoices for faculty, staff and students, and served as the post award administrator for various faculty grants.

Prior to the business manager position, her long-term service with Georgia State University was under the Finance and Administration Financial Services Department in the Office of Accounting Services. As an accountant III, her responsibilities included managing study abroad accounts for the university community, monthly reconciliations of student activities unite budgets, the athletics budget and preparing year-end BoR ARP close out submission reports.

Shirl is married, the proud mother of three daughters and two grands which are her pride and joy. She is very excited to join the MSE team at Georgia Tech.

  • Manage budgets to ensure funds are spent according to Institute and sponsor guidelines
  • Portfolio project management (Tsukruk, Vogel, Wang, Wong, Yushin, Milam, Muhlstein, Thadhani).
  • Review expenditures to ensure they are allowable
  • Manage sub-awards from initiation to close-out
  • Prepare financial reports and projects as needed
  • Provide financial approval for business transactions and ensure proper documentation is secured
